Adam resurrects an earlier interest and talent for racing, and enters the local Gold Rush Car Race. He hasn't raced in a long time after he retired from the sport when he suffered a nasty racing accident some years previously.

Guthrie helps prepare Adam's old racing car for the event at the local engine workshop. This includes re-spraying the car and painting a huge number seven logo on the side of the vehicle. "I thought a seven might bring you luck!" explains Guthrie. As for Adam himself, he's somewhat otherwise distracted as Hanna recently announced that she is now pregnant.

Not feeling too well, and not wanting to be exposed to the excitement of the race, Hanna opts to stay behind at the ranch when the others head off to watch Adam. When news reaches them that Hanna has collapsed and is being rushed to hospital, Adam uses his speedy car to rush to his wife's side.
