| | | | | My first memory of River Phoenix is seeing
"Stand By Me" in the theater.
I remember being quite taken by River's performance.
As the house lights came on and the credits rolled,
I recall staying seated to learn the identity of this
intriguing young man....
"That boy is going to be very successful,
I am sure of it," I recall saying. I had never seen
a young person convey such maturity like that.
Not only was I taken by his physical beauty,
but by a genuine feeling about him as a person.
He seemed to exude sensitivity, nobility, and wisdom.
I was elated when he did actually go on to make more films.
Having lost my own 26 year-old brother to murder,
I know all too well about tragic loss....
River, like so many others, your potential is
greatly mourned.
