Chris Chambers was the unassuming leader of a band of friends who lived in the small Oregon town of Castle Rock in the 1950's. In this closed environment he developed a strong, likeable personality with the confidence to take charge of a situation. Chris had a highly commendable outlook on life, being both careful, cautious and always thinking not only of his own future but that of his friends too.
However, the inhabitants of Castle Rock regarded the Chambers family as a bad lot. Everyone expected the youngest member of that family, Chris, to turn out the same way as well. With this sort of resentment, Chris himself began to believe that this future was inevitable for him and he thought that he would never get out of the small town he grew up in.
Despite this, and with the encouragement of his friends, he studied hard at school and soon went on to college. Chris found it very difficult but his strong determination saw him through. He graduated and eventually became an attorney.
On the evening of Tuesday, September 4 1985, Christopher Chambers entered a fast food restaurant. Just ahead of him in the queue a petty argument broke out. As always, still very much the peacemaker, he attempted to defuse the situation.
The last thing he saw was the knife.
