Rio's Attic: Celebrating the Life and Times of a Dearly Missed River Phoenix

Rio

By Sian Phillips
Music by Trevor Phillips and Matt Owen

RealAudio File

It's obvious before I start,
who this song is about,
the angels took him some time ago
- I wish he could have been found.

The life he led seemed wonderful,
achieving with much success,
but temptations took this boy from us,
there's nothing we can change.

But remember - that's the way it goes,
God takes people from our lives -
and though it is so hard to see,
he does what he feels is right.

A life worth remembering - the things he said and did,
a sensitive, beautiful being - he'll stay in all our heads.
And just a note to my memory - who has helped me to see things through,
I didn't know you personally,
yet there will always be a place in my heart for you.

I wanted to remember him in some way,
so I chose to write it down,
he was different to the others,
I've learnt he taught he so many things,
and at first it was so painful,
love was turned to grief,
now the tears are of laughter,
due to sweet memories,
and so I choose to sing...

Remember - that's the way it goes,
God takes people from our lives -
and though it is so hard to see,
he does what he feels is right.

A life worth remembering - the things he said and did,
a sensitive, beautiful being - he'll stay in all our heads.
And just a note to my memory-who has helped me to see things through,
I didn't know you personally, yet there will always be a place
in my heart for you.
