The People of the Forest
Living in an remote area of Southern Ecuador, the Achuar People have always carefully preserved the well-being of the part of the Amazon rainforest that is their home. They've lived there for hundreds of years in harmony with nature and have developed a deep-felt regard for their beautiful and life-giving surroundings.

They have been spared the disruption that has ravaged the Northern Ecuadorian Amazon but, because of the relentless search for new oil reserves, their proud culture is about to be destroyed.

The Ecuadorian Government, in much need of hard currency, has sold oil exploration rights to the US-based company ARCO and it's not just the Achuar territory that has been affected. The deal means that an unimaginable 2.5 million acres of "old growth" rainforest has now been set aside for oil development.
The Achuar People are now seeking worldwide support for their peaceful stand against oil exploration by ARCO.
