"Running on Empty," a poignant drama starring Christine Lahti, River Phoenix, Judd Hirsch and Martha Plimpton, will open on __________________, at the ______________ Theatre(s).
Directed by Sidney Lumet, "Running on Empty" concerns a family on the run--former '60s radicals, played by Christine Lahti and Judd Hirsch, and their two sons, 17-year-old Danny (River Phoenix) and his 10-year-old brother, Harry (Jonas Abry). Their life as a family is threatened when Danny is torn between running with his fugitive parents, or pursuing his own life, developing his musical talents and developing a special relationship with his new girlfriend (Martha Plimpton).
Sidney Lumet, recognized as one of America's most prominent film directors, is known for seeking projects with social significance. He has been nominated for five Academy Awards, while his films have received more than forty nominations. His other films include the tense political drama "Fail Safe"; "The Pawnbroker"; the police dramas "Serpico" and "Dog Day Afternoon"; the scathing satire "Network," which won four Academy Awards and was nominated for ten, including Best Picture and Best Director; "The Verdict"; and most recently "Garbo Talks," "Power" and "The Morning After."
Lorimar Film Entertainment presents a Double Play Production, starring Christine Lahti, Judd Hirsch, Martha Plimpton and River Phoenix in "Running on Empty." Steven Hill also stars in the picture, which was directed by Sidney Lumet, produced by Amy Robinson and Griffin Dunne with Executive Producers Naomi Foner and Burtt Harris.
