River also made a strong connection with comedienne Tracey Ullman who would play Rosalie Boca, the jealous wife. "Tracey Ullman and I clicked especially well," said River. "We had a really good time. We'd just mouth off and get clever on each other and play word games and stuff. And I learned such a lot during filming. I mean, the amount of learning experience from this project would probably equal, you know, the sum of all the other films I've done."
Respected British actress Miriam Margolyes also appears in the movie playing the part of Joey Boca's Italian mother. Talking of her co-star, she said, "He's definitely not a kid in this one. He's a young man and he's serious and more thoughtful about his work. He is a wonderful actor - as the teenage girls who lined up to get his autograph everywhere we went will tell you."

Following River's death, she described him simply as "an honorable young man. Gentle, genuine, a roaring talent. His death is a great loss."
