Following River's death, Fine Line Features commissioned the following full page advert which appeared in the November 4, 1993 issue of Daily Variety.

This movie also stars Rodney Harvey who plays the character of Gary. He began his acting career around the same time as River and has dated both Drew Barrymore and Uma Thurman of Even Cowgirls Get The Blues fame. After finishing My Own Private Idaho, he would go on to complete just one more movie, Guncrazy.
Harvey was found in a hotel room surrounded by syringes and other drug paraphernalia. He died of a drug overdose, in Los Angeles, in April 1998.
