Rio's Attic: Celebrating the Life and Times of a Dearly Missed River Phoenix

"In Memory of River Phoenix"

By Lucy Webley,
Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

The River Jude may be dry
and dead above the autumn sky
but what remains is true to say
never should have disappeared that way

Memories linger of that fateful night
beneath the stars and moon so bright
that fateful night a life was taken
not just a life, a legend in the making

The River Jude was God's creation
so natural, pure, no inclination
of what was destined to become
a significant figure, a relevant one

Although this life is here no longer
the soul and spirit appear stronger
to those of us who never knew
the pains and trauma he was going through

The idealistic River stays the same
and thoughts surround what might have been
if things were different a year ago
we may still have a flowing Rio

Lucy, 1994
