The Star Licks Master Session series has now been made available on DVD format, including this documentary about Red Hot Chili Peppers bass guitarist Flea.

Included in the package is a twenty-four page booklet of music notation that Flea performs in the show, along with descriptions and instructions on the various symbols used such as "Wrist Mute" and "Pick Hand Tap."

The lack of any special features on the disk itself though, while expected, is still disappointing. Even a main menu is absent and the DVD launches straight into the Adventures in Spontaneous Jamming and Techniques documentary when inserted into a DVD player. A very simple chapter selection screen can be accessed if needed, but that's everything this disk has to offer making the presentation of this DVD almost as forlorn as River's performance as host.

Nevertheless, the DVD is free of any region coding protection which makes it a worthwhile addition to anyone's collection given that it should play without too much difficulty in any country.
