YOUNGEST CELEBRITY TO DIE OF AN OVERDOSE
River Phoenix was 23 years old when he collapsed in 1993 outside Hollywood nightclub the Viper Room, which is owned by his fellow actor Johnny Depp. River was an avid environmentalist and at one time campaigned against the use of drugs. It was thought that the pressures of an excessive workload and his increasing fame were factors in his death. Phoenix's career highlights include Stand By Me (USA, 1986) and My Own Private Idaho (USA, 1991).
