Explorers: The Storybook

Younger readers are in for a treat if they are able to get hold of a copy of this storybook even though it is based on a movie that was released a number of years before they were born.

Commissioned for publication by Paramount Pictures at the same time that they launched Explorers the book tells the story of the movie in a format suitable for young children - the age range of the intended film audience.

When Ben reached the Thunder Road, Wolfgang and Darren were already there.
"We've got to get out of here," Ben said breathlessly. "Some guy knows about us and he's on his way here right now."
Darren started climbing into the ship. Ben followed but Wolfgang hung back.
"I still think we should talk about this. We don't know what we're doing. Maybe it's all coincidence."
"You know," Ben said to Wolfgang, "for a mental giant, sometimes you're a real doofus."
"I'm just thinking about all the possibilities. What if they want to eat us?"

Illustrated with a glorious, large color picture on practically every page the book whizzes through the plot of Explorers almost as fast as the Thunder Road but still has time for a few scenes that didn't quite make it into the finished movie.

Ben looked out of the window. "Watch it!" he yelled to Wolfgang.
"I'm not doing this!" Wolfgang yelled back.
Below them, Steve Jackson and his gang were hanging out at the snack bar. Steve was hassling the girl at the counter.
"Hey," he said, looking at the change she'd given him. "that was a twenty."
"It was not," answered the girl.
"If I'm lying," Steve smirked, "I hope I get hit by a train."
At that moment, the Thunder Road, completely out of Wolfgang's control, blasted through the snack bar. It wrecked the candy counters and popcorn machines, and headed for Steve. He ducked out of the way just in time. Then he and his friends ran for their lives.

At the back of the book can be found the briefest of biographies about the four child stars of the movie, Ethan Hawke, Jason Presson, Amanda Peterson and River.
